Zircus des Zelbst (Circus of Self)
This “Circus of Self” evolved as a metaphor for the slow disintegration of understanding and deciphering our youth (this confusion pertains to the “we” as individuals as well as the collective “we” as a group or generation of adults) and the loss of guidance of “our” inner child as we paddle uphill into adulthood and beyond. The choice of a circus setting was an ideal metaphor expressing duality. The duality between childhood and the emergence of adulthood — the glistening lights, attractions, and merriment of the circus appreciated as a youth, become a frightening, frustrating, bewildering and lonely setting as grown-up reality replaces the carnival.

As we journey through this blog, I will be adding photo stills from this exhibit as well as images from the Circus event we held in honor of Isaac Rullo’s five year anniversary, and benefiting the Hughes Syndrome Foundation. For now, I will leave you with the original event posters.
